Several homes on Kenny Chesney's.island of Saint John has been destroyed by Hurricane Irma.

The country singer was not there when the storm hit, but he opened his home so others and their animals could take shelter.

HLN's Robin Meade interviewed him about the devastation, saying that his home had essentially disappeared, but the people in the area stand out more to him.

Florida, which is lacking power as hundreds of thousands await one of the strongest storms in the Atlantic, strengthened into a Category 4 storm as Hurricane Irma inch closer.

Key West was 40 miles southeast of Irma early Sunday as winds exceeded 130mph.In the early morning, the storm began moving toward the Florida Keys.

As it ripped away from Cuba's northern coast, the outer rain bands pounded the Florida Keys with high winds, heavy rain, and surges of water.
